FIRST ARTISTS CONFIRMED IN THE ¨OPEN CALL FOR ARTISTS¨: PI STUDIO

The series of terracotta sculptures that Pi Studio presents at ISLA constitutes for the artist a dialogue of an emotional nature, a vehicle for the expression of deep, spontaneous, unconscious and convulsive emotional states that come to have weight, form and matter. They are objects that speak of the visceral nature of our complex and incomprehensible universe.

The pieces become living and autonomous beings that evolve over time and whose identity is born and matures independently of the hands that create them, acquiring their own personality. The work inhabits a constant place of transit, it does not follow a preconceived way of solving, it has the vocation of not looking for a style but for it to generate itself.

The series is guided by a discourse of beauty devoid of sentimentality that confronts us with an organic brutality devoid of sentimentality, a timelessness of the construction of feelings closer to the medical sciences than to an emotional literature. A cathartic mirror is constructed in which to reflect ourselves and in which our own imperfection is the one that replicates ourselves in unexpected ways. Linking one piece to the next I create series, like words within a sentence.

My sculptural work looks at the world outside; outside the workshop, the gallery, the collection. The pieces make sense as they degrade, rooted in the same earth from which they are built, eroded by the same water that allows them to take shape. I find interesting the patinas they acquire with the passage of time in the open air, lacking ceramic glazes and maintaining a certain degree of porosity. I like to imagine that this inner emptiness that characterizes them is occupied, lived and used by other tiny beings that we constantly despise and dominate, by other beings different from our species that also colonize¨.
